THE ALCOHOL MANAGEMENT PROGRAM, UNIVERSITY OF MICHIGAN HEALTH SYSTEM

Mission: The Program assists individuals in decreasing or eliminating their alcohol consumption.
Fees: Free telephone screening, $495 for the individual in-person format, $495 for the phone format & $395 for the group format.
Approach: The Program is appropriate for individuals with mild to moderate alcohol dependence who are motivated to eliminate the negative consequences they are experiencing from alcohol. Clients complete educational sessions with counselors; ongoing homework and documented self monitoring are required.
Licensing: The Program is licensed to provide prevention services through the Michigan Office of Substance Abuse Services.
Professionals: Counselors are certified providers of the program with masters degrees in social work, nursing and health education.

Treatment: Serving adults 18 and older with chemical dependency/dual diagnosis. 92-beds total, including detoxification, rehabilitation, partial hospitalization and intensive outpatient programs, Opiate Treatment Program, Michigan Health Professionals Recovery Program, Adolescent Intensive Outpatient Program, 30-day Addiction Care for Clergy, Men and Women’s Halfway Houses (on-campus), Michigan Driver’s License Restoration Assessments, Auricular (Ear) Acupuncture treatments offered in all levels of treatment and Monday, Wednesday, Friday for the general public. Family and Friends programming and Retreats, Al-Anon, A.A., N.A., 12-step meetings available.
Fees: Most insurance accepted. 30-day programs available.

Providing services to adults, 50 years of age and older, experiencing problems with the abuse of alcohol, prescription medication and/or other drugs. The program places a major emphasis on providing older adults with substance abuse education, recovery tools and strategies and a long-term plan for maintaining recovery and continued support. Treatment: Dawn Farm’s detox, residential, outpatient and transitional housing programs serve drug addicts and alcoholics, ages 17 and up. Detox is non-medical and 3-5 days. Residential treatment is 2-6 months plus 6 months of weekly aftercare groups. Outpatient services offers group, individual and family counseling. Transitional housing is 6 to 24 months. Other programs include: treatment for court mandated adolescents and their families, street outreach, specialized case-management for custodial mothers, transitional housing for custodial parents (limited availability), jail outreach and public education. Free annual public education program runs from October to early summer.
Fees: People are treated regardless of ability to pay, with priority given to Washtenaw and Livingston County residents. Indigent residents of these counties should call ACCESS. Indigent residents of other counties should be directed to call their local CDRs. Fees vary by program, call 485-8725 for current information.

Mission: To provide a structured, safe environment for women committed
to ongoing recovery from chemical dependency, and to assist the client
in building self-esteem and realizing her full potential.
Fees: Transition: Customers are treated regardless of ability
to pay. Outpatient: Sliding scale, out of pocket. Indigent residents
of Washtenaw and Livingston Counties should call Health Services Access
for a referral.
Treatment: HNV serves recovering women ages 18+ via three gender-specific ¾ houses and an outpatient facility. Programs: Dual Diagnosis (open to men and women); Financial Education and Economic Literacy (FEEL,
free budgeting classes to all low-income women); and Taking it to the
Streets (Medicaid outreach for men and women). Assessment, Screening,
Referrals: Drivers license evaluations for the Secretary of
State and substance abuse assessments for courts, case workers, lawyers,
schools, etc. available for both men and women.

Saint Joseph Mercy-Greenbrook is a comprehensive chemical dependency out patient clinic that provides services for adolescents and adults. Treatment services include: comprehensive chemical dependency assessment, individual treatment and groups for adolescents and adults. In addition an Intensive Outpatient program is provided for adults. Auxiliary services include a family education group and a substance abuse education series. Mission: It is our mission to be an innovative and effective substance
abuse counseling program (utilizing the Personalized Nursing LIGHT Model)
that strives for excellence clinically as well as administratively. Specifically,
our intention is to: increase client well-being, decrease addiction severity
and contribute positively to society.
Fees: Connecticut General, Washtenaw/Livingston County, SEMCA,
Medicaid and others on a case-by-case basis.
Treatment: Day treatment, intensive outpatient and outpatient services.
Age Served: 18 years of age and older.
Assessment, Screening, Referrals, Recovery Support: Clients are
screened and assessed to determine the appropriate level of treatment.
Clients who need services not offered by PNLH can choose from an extensive
referral list. AA meeting on site.

Across the lifespan, the University of Michigan Addiction Treatment Services (UMATS) provides high quality, professional assessments and outpatient treatment for individuals and their families with alcohol and other drug problems. Services include evaluations, consultations, and referrals; outpatient detoxification; day and evening intensive outpatient programs (IOP for adults; adolescent IOP (coming Fall, 2008); group therapy; psychiatric evaluations and treatment; and pharmacotherapy (medications) for addictions. Special populations include adolescents and young adults, individuals with both mental health and substance abuse problems (dual diagnosis), and health professionals. In a progressive, university health system that combines patient care, research, and education, we employ a mutlidiciplinary approach to addictions treatment, staffed by physicians, nurses, and masters-level therapists from psychology and social work. Twelve-step and other community support group involvement is encouraged, and meetings are available at the Rachel Upjohn Building, including Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Women For Sobriety (WFS) and Caduceus (Recovery for Health Professionals). UMATS is licensed by the State of Michigan Center for Substance Abuse Services, is accreditated by JCAHO, and is recognized by the Michigan Health Professional Recovery Program (HPRP). The service's smoking cessation program holds group sessions that last seven weeks. The goroups meet eight times; the first half of the program is in preparation for quitting; the fourth week is "quit week" and the last three weeks focus on preventing a relapse. Within 48 hours of the day they quit somoking, participants meet in group sessions so they have a built-in support group in that initial difficult period. After the program's group sessions end, counselors follow up individually with participants for up to a year. The service is free for UM Health System employees and patients with a UMHS clinician's referral. There is a fee of $100 for other persons

Free nicotine patches, gum and lozenges are offered by the Michigan Department of Community Health for tobacco users who enroll in free cessation services through the Michigan Tobacco Quitline. The state is giving away up to eight-week supplies of nicotine replacement products. The tobacco quitline can be reached 24 hours a day, seven days a week, at 800-784-8669. The quit program also provides personal coaches to help develop individualized quit plans. The coaches provide ongoing support with up to five telephone sessions around the caller's quit date. Spanish-speaking coaches are available. The program is available to all callers 18 and older, regardless of income or insurance status.
