Across the lifespan, the University of Michigan Addiction Treatment Services (UMATS) provides high quality, professional assessments and outpatient treatment for individuals and their families with alcohol and other drug problems. Services include evaluations, consultations, and referrals; outpatient detoxification; day and evening intensive outpatient programs (IOP for adults; adolescent IOP (coming Fall, 2008); group therapy; psychiatric evaluations and treatment; and pharmacotherapy (medications) for addictions. Special populations include adolescents and young adults, individuals with both mental health and substance abuse problems (dual diagnosis), and health professionals. In a progressive, university health system that combines patient care, research, and education, we employ a mutlidiciplinary approach to addictions treatment, staffed by physicians, nurses, and masters-level therapists from psychology and social work. Twelve-step and other community support group involvement is encouraged, and meetings are available at the Rachel Upjohn Building, including Alcoholics Anonymous (AA), Women For Sobriety (WFS) and Caduceus (Recovery for Health Professionals). UMATS is licensed by the State of Michigan Center for Substance Abuse Services, is accreditated by JCAHO, and is recognized by the Michigan Health Professional Recovery Program (HPRP).
